DR. HELGA RUOPP

Born in a refugee camp in Czechoslovakia into a family displaced after  WWII, (being an ethnic German from the Zipser region in the Carpathian Mts.) Helga eventually emigrated to the USA. Since she didn’t understand  English, she took to art to express herself. Later, she attended Adelphi University receiving a Bachelor's and Master of Arts degrees in Education with a concentration in Fine Arts. She began her teaching career in Brentwood, Long Island teaching elementary grades and later marine science and biology at Danbury High School. Along the way, she acquired a  Master’s Degree in Oceanography and Limnology from Western Connecticut  State University and a Doctorate of Education from Teachers College  Columbia University. She also was an Adjunct Professor at Western CT  State University, Sacred Heart University, Fairfield University, and Naugatuck Valley Community College. She was the K-12 Science Program Coordinator and later the Fine and Applied Arts Curriculum Administrator for the Danbury  Public School system. She also taught cooking and painting to children at the YMCA’s 'Escape to the Arts program.

With our children being young adults now, she devotes most of her time to her passion Painting and sharing her gift with others.

When you buy from an artist you're buying more than just an object or a painting that you connect with. You are buying hundreds of hours of failures and experimentation.  You are buying days, weeks, and sometimes months of frustration and moments of PURE JOY.  You aren't just buying a thing to hang on the wall, you're buying a piece of a heart, part of a soul, a moment of life.  Most importantly, you're buying the artist more time to create something that they are passionate about.  You are buying a glimpse into their vision and for a short moment, you and the artist connect.

Helga has four children and five grandchildren and lives with her husband and favorite art critic, Jim, in Palm Beach Gardens, FL along with their white Shepherd, Jake. Her choice of medium is acrylics but works equally well in oil, watercolor, and ink.
